Gmail Labs Goes Live

About 3 minutes ago Gmail Labs went live.

To find out what’s going on and what Labs offers, you have a new link in your Gmail account under “Settings” called, you guessed it, Labs.

Here are some neat things you can add to your Gmail:

Signature Features

A couple of signature tools that allow you to rotate signature links and have more control over where in your messages your signature shows up. I could use that!

Custom Keyboard Shortcuts

“Lets you customize keyboard shortcut mappings. Adds a new Settings tab from which you can remap keys to various actions.” Sounds cool. Need to play with that one.

Pictures in Chat

“See your friends’ profile pictures when you chat with them.” meh

Things can go wrong in Gmail Labs.

These are all beta add-ons, just so you know.

“Gmail Labs allows you to try out experimental new features in Gmail and send feedback to us so we can improve them.

“Gmail engineers come up with new ideas all the time. Gmail Labs is our place to try them out and get your feedback. None of these features are really ready for prime time yet, so they may change, break or disappear at any time.”

i.e. “so don’t freak out!”

Seems like there are some neat things to try out in Gmail Labs as add-ons to Gmail designed to make your life easier, or not, depending on the idea.

Go check your email now and hit the Labs and see if you can find some golden nuggets to enhance your Gmail experience!

See the in-depth preview TechCrunch did on Gmail Labs.
